- Click on Start
- Select Run
- Type ncpa.cpl and press enter
- Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
Note: If "Local Area Connection" is not listed, your ethernet card is not currently detected by Windows XP, use the Add/Remove Hardware control panel to install your Ethernet card for use with Windows XP.
- Click the General tab and make sure that the list of installed components includes Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is not listed:
- Click Install.
- Select Protocol and click Add.
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click OK.
- Click Yes to reboot your computer, then begin the configuration process again with step 1.
Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) by clicking on it once (do not uncheck it!) and click the Properties button. - Type the IP address & Subnet mask also Gateway and DNS if required.
- Click OK.
Thats all your network is ready.
